Time to get the wellies out, Thames is flodding
Alloneword replied to Alloneword's topic in Open Forum
It's the thin edge of the wedge Jamer, nobody worried much about the west country last year but when London goes the bods that be will be going nuts and blaming everyone but themselves this will give you an idea of why i think it's a case of when not if I can't talk much about North or West London, but South and East would have major issues rehousing people, i'm guessing loads would just be shipped out to somewhere else, but not much an advertisment for the UK is it? Oh well guess it's time to get the new ditch kit sorted for the other half and invest in a tin boat or move to Crystal Palace. All1 -
http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-flooding-river-thames-bursts-banks-swamping-waterfronts-across-capital-10061480.html I know round my way (well .5 mile away it's already breached the walls by a local pub, as for me no need to panic, I'm BELOW sea level, so next 2 or 3 high tides should be intresting at 4am and 4pm on Sunday, where is noah and his ark when you need him? time to look at some waders i think. I'm trying to find a permant fix for this that is why i was looking at paying for something, I was toying with the idea of paying for yahoo but who to say google wont gobble them up or something, i'll touch base with 1&1 and see what they suggest, i'll bung them an email now. All1

Well after my latest self build i can understand the no hassle bit that is for sure, i suspect with the money i payed for my last build i could have bought a very nice mac, but windows for all it's bad points is like a comfy pair of slippers, i know where i stand and at my age the addage of "Too old to teach a dog new tricks comes to mind" All1 Let us know how your m8 got on DJ

Can't comment on Macs too much they are nicely designed that is for sure but the prices are stupid IMO at least Disk Turpin had the deceny to wear a mask, I upgrade my laptop from 1TB spinner to a 500GB SSD for just over £120, ok it was a good deal on Amazon but even £150 will cover it nowadays, and took all of 30 mins to install so says something about Apple and what it think of it's consumers IMO, but as Jamer says depends on what he needs it for, cloud is ok but has it's own drawbacks, one you need decent upload speeds and given i get 500k if i'm luck i think that is a sore point with me but more worrying is you are trusting YOUR data with someone else, i'm not talking about hacking account or anything like that it just means you dont have full control and personally i like to be in control of my data. Maybe OT some of my rants but lots of bods i know do like the mac OS and will not go back to windows, me the only advantage macs have is less virus issues, however i'd say he needs to do more research into IF mac is best for his needs personally i have no idea but it seems strange use a mac to code for windows, i don't know just seems weird to me. Well i have been putting it off for years as i always hoped Tesco would hold onto their BB/email service but now it's been solt to TalkTalk for 148 billion clubcard points i'm sure TT in their wisdom will make me dump my much loved email address myapartment@well you can work out the rest So i'm now on the search for another provider who provides a pop3 service that i can use with my old email client which is Thunderbird 5.0, I have to use old version as that is the last one my AV support, so folks what's the deal and who do you suggest? I have the usual yahoo/web based accounts but i do like the idea of having total controil of my email rather then trusting the cloud, i don't need anything special (ie myapartment@alloneword.co.uk) just something i can pick the first bit and the second bit will not change, after all i have had my current email for 16 years and don't want to move it again as it's a major pain in the rear for me. Happy to pay something sensabile (bear in mind i'm half Scottish and i do want a good deal) given i just want email account i can't think it's that hard vut i have no idea where to look, but my main concern is not having to chnage it for as long as poss. I'm considering dumping my run of the mill microwave for one of these combination microwave things, my main reason for doing this is to cut down on my energy costs, I'm all electric and thinking that investing in one of these (anywhere between £200-£400) will save me running costs in the long term, does anyone use one of these often? If so how do you/the other half find them in quality of cooking and have you or the other half noticed a dop in your running costs? All1
