That's why I said repeal or amended.. ANPR can be used usefully, but I believe it should be a targetted 'weapon' - i.e. a roadside check. The present system stores travel details of all journeys for at least 2 years (and up to 5). In addition, it is regularly used to prevent certain people (e.g. protestors) from proceeding on their lawful business - so I'd want a targetted vehicle under these (and other) circumstances only to be stopped with full judicial powers.. It's also a perfect way to create a road pricing network that will be yet another tax! CRB is ok in general, but when people are barred/vetted because of heresay/uncorroborated accusations, and ignores innocent verdicts, then it needs reform. Paedos need weeding out, but the current system produces more 'false positives' than 'positive detections' Smart meters are fine in principle...however the built in software allows full surveillance of power usage combined with the ability to limit or even cut off a supply. I don't need to spell out how that capability could possibly be abused!

Nice one.. Enjoy the sun - because it's guaranteed to rain here as we're off on half-term camping in a few days!

Hence why it's top of my list... :Winky: I don't do easy targets... I need the challenge..

I must admit, after many years of campaigning it was good to hear a lot of the 'freedom measures' announced by Liz today.. Link Of course I'll be even happier if the actual wording of the bill matches the rhetoric, and that it is then actually passed! But Nick Clegg has said that we should all be able to select acts that could be repealed/amended... So what would be on your wish list in this area...I have a little shopping list, which is by no means complete. Some of these may be looked at by the coalition: Digital Economy Bill US extradition treaty ANPR data retention RIPA 28 days detention Right of entry to homes by 'state officials' Accreditation scheme Control orders ASBO's Vetting/Barring/CRB Child support act/Secret Family courts Section 44 terrorism act Smart meters... And it was such an irony that the necessity of the "Freedom (Great Repeal) Bill" was shown a mere few hours before it was announced... Protester Brian Haw arrested before Queen's speech The stink of the last 13 years is still in the air !

One link of many. Link As I say, you should be ok, but it is a requirement in theory.. Have a good trip anyway...
-
In theory you do need to take both card and paper bit, as the latter holds the offences section. Where are you going? I've never been asked for it (so far) in Germany, Sweden and Iceland.

Doors open at 4.30pm, but there are no firm start/finish times available atm. Bought the tickets quite late, so we're seated 'right up in the gods'!

Sounds like it might be a good idea. Not sure what we're doing beforehand yet, as we're hopefully going to make a whole day of it - and I think I'm going to be dragged around the science museum at some point !

Those of us who can remember the Hurricane (and maybe enjoyed his anti-establishment behaviour) will be saddened by his present condition...

It's coming back...ash disruption! A new webcam that shows the plume now The next webcam is often busy, but it shows how near the current eruption is to one of the big ones - Hekla link

Apparently about 11pm is the cut off, but the queues at Wembley park are supposed to be quite bad. ... But there's no way I'll be able to drag Green Day's biggest 8 yr old fan away early !
-
Unfortunately the ones I've found are booked on the night, or are charging ludicrous amounts despite the 'headline' rates when you actually contact them!
-
Taking our 8yr old to her first big gig next week - Green Day at Wembley Stadium. However, the last train back to the south coast is too early to get to (after a trek across London) unless we leave before the end or take the 1.00am one that takes 4hrs instead of 1hr 20 ! Does anyone live in the Wembley area and can tell me where I can park near a tube station as I can't park at the stadium.

very slow here... put another 10p in the slot jamer...

Airlines to try a new solution to combat the ash...

Webcam Link Oh, and what's the difference between Cheryl Cole and an Icelandic volcano? At the moment, only one of them is blowing Ash.....

As ever, we're only a few days from chaos...or in the case of the UK, profiteering! Mind you, I wonder when the panic buying will start?... A 'wake up call'?...but who will listen? We can't feed ourselves anymore, so this is what happens when something normal interrupts our accepted pattern of life. We started looking at cutting down 'food miles' a while ago, and eating seasonally. Not only does it make some foods more special when you don't have then year round, but it does show up vaste anomalies. For example, asparagus from peru half the price of that fom 10 miles away ffs ! Reports on the morning news in Iceland say that emmissions are increasing again, and readings are consistent with this continuing for quite some time! Of course it could shut off at any time, but if not...............

Mind you, it's a change getting sh*tty air coming this way. Normally the view is crystal clear up there when sunny, but if they get 3 days of southerly winds all the polution comes from Europe. Vision drops to 5-10km! It's then you realise what crap we are breathing in every day!
-
Apparently all flights to be cancelled at heathrow from midday according to 5live - and for an indefinate period ! This will cost far more than the icesave debacle... Funnily enough we were waiting for a new passport for our youngest before booking a trip to Iceland....it just arrived this morning, so I think we'll hold off for a while. btw, there might be some interesting sunsets tonight with the high level ash!
-
If the big one blows, this will be but nothing! Interestingly, if it does follow the same pattern then it will erupt for 2 years - which will take us nicely into the mayan timescale... :Hmm:

Well the volcanic eruption has increased, and has now melted part of the glacier. Video1 Video2 I once worked about 20km from the area, and when I was there a similar eruption/flood swept the 'big bridge' (as they call it) away. This time they managed to dig out part of the road in the hope of diverting the flood. Since there is only one road around the country it would be disasterous if it's shut for months as it was before. They got a temporary one from the UK last time, but I'm not sure what will happen this time ! However, there is a disturbing report that as of a few hours ago they have detected the possibility that the main volcano under the glacier may blow. The last time that happened, it is believed by some that the resulting ash cloud caused a famine in parts of europe and was one of the triggers of the french revolution - "let them eat cakes" and all that !

Some stunning pictures of the latest Icelandic eruption... Link Nice to see somewhere still ignores 'elf & safety'!
