sparks
A topical easter topic, but one that is slightly different this year... Forget whether it'll be ice creams or brollies, but the UK crops are under a serious risk! I've never known a growing season like it, coupled with a lack of rain. Our plants are at least 1 month ahead of schedule (I've already got chilli flowers on our hottest ones, when usually they've just germinated!). And our 2000L water storage capacity is now down to about 100L...We've only had to resort to tap water once before, and that was in August !...Even if we now get above average rainfall, it won't recover for the season.. Rumour has it that the government emergency committee cobra (aka w*nk tank), has already met as regards food security, because if we get a week of cold weather UK wide (like last may), we may find that our food supply is decimated! Remember where you heard it first... :Winky:
sparks
No cold snap, but a very serious problem anyway... Ministers call emergency summit as drought looms That's the public meeting following the earlier 'secret' one! Still, at least.... there should be a bumper crop of strawberries in time for Wimbledon next month Still, at 30p per fruit there was no danger of a shortage!
